The American Legion Post 690

The American Legion is the largest organization of United States war veterans. They have approximately 14,000 posts worldwide and provide social and mutual aid to the United State’s armed forces. At Cafe Cartel we are proud to have friends at the American Legion Post 690 in Palatine, Illinois. Jeff Von Horn along with all of the vets and members of post 690 annually host Thanksgiving dinner for active service members in their community.

Being away from home for the holidays is difficult for anyone. When you’re a naval recruit that isn’t able to return home for Thanksgiving it can be especially difficult. As a veteran’s organization the American Legion Post 690 is all too familiar and began hosting Thanksgiving dinner with local active military as guests of honor.

Ed Grabowski, Commander American Legion Post 690, told the Palatine Patch “‘With Great Lakes Naval Station being so close, we are bringing a bus load of recruits to the Legion and providing them with a day of thanks.  Since they will not be able to enjoy their holiday with their loved ones, the Legion will be providing dinner, a day of activities and the ability to call home for however long they desire.  It is our goal to provide to these young men and women a memory that will stay with them their entire life.’ As part of Support a Sailor, the American Legion family is asking the community to help financially support this dinner.”

This community event is a great example of all the good that the American Legion does for veterans and our service women and men.

With Cafe Cartel’s Bar Point of Sale, the American Legion has been able to manage their business operations such as setting up discounts for service men and women, using the software.
